I'm Welsh but spent my formative years (5 - 10) living in Redbridge and my step father at the time took me to see us (mostly the stiff's games as he was a cheap cunt). The moment I saw Hurst, Moore and Peters in the flesh, I was hooked.
I remember also really liking Clyde Best because he was black, which was highly unusual back then. Well, that and he used to score a shit load of goals.

How can you support a club fucking nowhere near where you live that you have zero affiliation with?!
Yeah weird that as ALL the Southend fans I know (as I work and drink round there) reckon anyone from that area who supports WHU is a glory hunter..... work that out....weird relationship us and that lot...

I used to work for a large printing company in Maldon which was full of so called Man Utd fans.
I used to ask the question why they didn't support a team more local Ipswich or Colchester.
One of them actually said to me well who do you support then West Ham I said born in Plaistow made in West Ham.

Quite a few in my local watching the game and they were getting the right ump. At half time i offered a score to the bloke who could do the most convincing Manc accent. In fairness they took the jibe quite well apart from one bloke who called me a cockney cunt. Exactly i told him,a cockney who supports a club out of East London. I asked this berk why he chose Man Utd and his answer was,and i'm not joking 'coz they were on tele a lot when i was a kid'. He asked me why West Ham and i told him i was born a mile and a half from Upton Park and my old man took me over there aged 4. He didnt speak to me much after that.

Exile, same as you, a young lad of 8 in 1966, Moore, Hurst and Peters got me hooked, have always lived in North Lincolnshire with no family connections to London. For my sins though I get to about half of Grimsby's games, it's been a long hard football life but it's great when you have those moments of joy.

One name that pops into my head is Olly Murs born in Essex yet is a Manure fan. I do not get it unless his dad was born in Manchester and always kept the faith.
I do not hate Glory hunters I just feel sorry for them.
